How to survive a sauna marathon? Prepare for sauna ceremonies.

You may have heard of them, or perhaps you are looking forward to your first one – sauna ceremonies are an experience that is gaining more and more fans across the country. And it's no wonder. They take traditional sauna bathing to a whole new level – full of scents, music, lights, and perfectly managed relaxation. But to ensure that the sauna marathon excites you rather than overwhelms you, it's good to know a few tricks.

What is a sauna ceremony?

A sauna ceremony is a guided sauna experience where an experienced sauna master (yes, that's the correct term for the "man of the sauna ceremony") or sauna mistress uses towels and fans to circulate hot air around the sauna. They add essential oils, music, thematic stories, and sometimes even light effects.
The result is an extraordinary experience that not only warms you but primarily relaxes both your body and mind.

The ceremony usually lasts 10–15 minutes, and typically several different ceremonies take place in succession during one sauna day. That's why we talk about a sauna marathon.

How to prepare for a sauna marathon?

1. Hydrate well in advance
You will sweat a lot in the sauna, so hydration is essential. Water or mild herbal teas are ideal. Avoid alcohol and sugary sodas.

2. Light meal before the sauna
Don’t go to the ceremonies hungry or overly full. A light meal two to three hours before sauna bathing is ideal.

3. Bring a sauna hat
You might be surprised, but a sauna hat protects your head from overheating and extends your stay in the heat. A great companion for the ceremony!

4. Equip yourself with towels and a robe
One towel for sitting, another for drying off, and a robe for transitions between ceremonies – this will enhance your comfort and relaxation.

How to handle multiple ceremonies in a row?

– Listen to your body.
Even if you plan to attend all the ceremonies, feel free to skip one if you feel you need a longer break. Wellness is about comfort, not records.

– Relax between cycles.
After each ceremony, take a break in the relaxation zone. Lie down, close your eyes, and breathe slowly. Give your body time to recover.

– Utilize cooling zones.
After the ceremony, don’t forget to take a cold shower or a quick dip in the cooling pool. This will strengthen your blood vessels and support your immunity.

– Treat yourself to a scrub or gentle skin treatment.
Consider using a homemade body scrub before the next ceremony – your skin will be beautifully stimulated and breathe better.

Why are sauna ceremonies worth it?

Sauna ceremonies are not just about heat. They are about experience. About consciously stopping in today’s fast-paced world.
In just a few hours, you will do something for relaxation, rest, physical and mental well-being, and boosting immunity.

Moreover, in such a sauna world like Sauna Central, where you can enjoy something refreshing to drink (we recommend a refreshing matcha) between ceremonies, you will feel like you are on a mini wellness vacation – even if just for one afternoon.
